Thousands of particles are detected (top), and their properties are statistically analyzed: Count, sizes, shapes, etc. Different classes of particles in a mixture are analyzed separately (bottom). In this case, glass beads were mixed with crystalline particles and VAIDR was trained to distinguish them from each other and from fibrous contamination (see below).

Even though particles may be touching physically (left), VAIDR can be trained to detect borders and points of contact. In this way, the objects can be segmented correctly and and accurate particle properties are extracted. Rare structures can be detected reliably (right). In this case, fibers contaminating the mixture are detected and highlighted in magenta.
